SFU’S MAGGIE BENSTON

Constructed in 1973, Maggie Benston Centre is reserved for student services and resources at the Simon Fraser University Burnaby campus. The building features multiple levels of structured planting, resembling a bifurcated staircase. To enlighten the architecture, North by Northwest removed the existing plant material, adding new Japanese Stewartia and Snowball trees accompanied by a multitude of boxwoods and dogwoods. Promoting sustainability within SFU’s infrastructure, Maggie Benston’s rooftop is covered with a state of the art Xeroflor rain system; supporting the capturing and storing of rainwater. The Xeroflor rain system is also disguised by 14 different species of Sedum Acre succulents, featuring, Dragon’s Blood, Oktoberfest, and Weihenstephaner Gold.
